Incorporating sustainable design when building your new home
With environmental concern being at an all-time high, we think it’s important that we all do what we can to minimise our impact on the environment.
Our key tips:
Embrace passive design – Passive design refers to using desing to take advantage of gthe surrounding climate to maintain a comfortable temperature range in the home, helping to reduce the need for additional heating or cooling. By carefully orientating the building on the site and designing a well-considered building envelope, you’ll be able to minimise unwanted heat gain and loss.
Choose your insulation and materials wisely – choose quality doors, windows, insulation, low VOC paint and polished concrete flooring as these are all easy to maintain and will contribute to lower running costs for your home.
Keep raw materials exposed – by choosing to keep raw materials exposed (as opposed to covering with render/gyprock) you reduce the total embodied energy of the build.
Install a solar power system and choose water saving faucets.
