A Glimpse Into Our Tallows Kitchen

Tallows, which also happens to be our family home, is our latest custom luxury home project to be completed in Byron Bay! Nestled in the heart of Byron Bay, we wanted Tallows to reflect the modern Australian Contemporary Design style that we have carried throughout our FutureFlip journey, whilst still playing into that coastal-inspired look and feel. And of course, we had to make sure that the products we used reflected this path too.
For us, we really wanted Tallows to be something where our family could play, relax, spend time together, host and ultimately grow and evolve together. This meant that not only did we want our home to look and feel like ours, but that the features and appliances we chose had to be durable, reliable and fit to our family life – which can be chaotic as you know!
When deciding on our suppliers, our main goal was to source premium products that were easy to use and seamlessly adapted into our home’s Australian coastal contemporary design aesthetic. So, we started with the kitchen, the place where our family arguably spends (almost) all of our time! From appliances, materials and the final finishes, every item and supplier we chose came from a considered approach to provide a little luxury within the practicality of these choices.
So, what products did we go with for our kitchen? Scroll down to see!
Kitchen Appliances – Miele
Partnering with Miele for all of our kitchen appliances was a no-brainer. Their premium products, advanced technology and the beautiful quality of each appliance provided us with all the reassurance we needed to make every single appliance in our kitchen, a Miele appliance. We decided to order the oven and wine conditioner in their Matte Black colourway, and integrated the dishwasher and fridge/freezer into our joinery to create a seamless aesthetic and emphasise the coastal-chic Australian feel we envisioned for Tallows.
The best part? We can control all of these appliances directly from our phones!
Products used:
Stone Bench Top – Artedomus
For our iconic kitchen bench, we chose a gorgeous Natural Quartzite Stone (Qariza) benchtop from Artedomus. Qariza is a type of quartzite that showcases rich golden and brown hues and undulated veining — and it isn’t just beautiful, it’s one of the most durable materials you can put in a busy family kitchen. Quartzite is naturally hard-wearing and scratch-resistant, which really matters when you’ve got a family of five in and out of the kitchen every day. The rich, varied veining also works in our favour practically: it’s brilliant at camouflaging everyday marks, spills and stains, so the benchtop always looks as good as new, no matter how much life happens on it.

Tapware – Astrawalker
To match our Matte Black appliances from Miele, and really add to the warmth already taking shape in our kitchen, we chose Astrawalker’s Icon + Lever Knurled collection in the finish English Brass.16 for our tapware. The way the spout sits so high, but also deep enough into your sink is such a win for us! Not only is this tap absolutely beautiful, but we can fit many hands and many dishes under it comfortably!
On top of that, we also spoiled ourselves with a pot filler placed above our stove, really moulding the kitchen of our dreams.

Kitchen Joinery – Wood Rabbit Kitchens
For the joinery, durability and timelessness were crucial here. With many hands grabbing and pulling the doors open each day, we really did our background checks when looking for the perfect partner. Enter: Wood Rabbit Kitchens.
We chose their genuine oak veneer material with custom handles for all of our joinery, and we couldn’t be happier with how it looks! We truly can’t stop admiring how beautiful the colour and the patterns in the wood complement our whole kitchen, and the durability is already evident in the months since we have called Tallows home. The oak veneer really was the finishing touch to bring that sense of coastal-inspired luxury into our home.

The Finer Details
Dulux AcraStone Microcement – To bring a softness and texture into the kitchen, we finished our feature wall and rangehood in Dulux AcraStone in Fine, a microcement-like system that delivers a smooth, grout-free finish. This paired beautifully with the warmth of our Qariza benchtop and Wood Rabbit joinery, tying the whole space together with that same handcrafted, organic feel we wanted throughout Tallows. It’s not just a design win either, AcraStone is water-resistant, making it a genuinely practical choice for a high-traffic zone like the space around our rangehood, and applying it directly over the substrate meant we could achieve that continuous stone-like look without the mess of a full tile job.
Wall sconces from B-TD – The wall sconces positioned on either side of the rangehood are from B-TD and are the beautiful Reflector Wall Sconces in Brushed Brass. In our opinion, they are a strong mix of contemporary design with a rustic, coastal inspired vibe.
Double Outlet Power Points from Zetr – these outlets almost camouflage into the Quaritz backsplash, which is exactly what we are going for! Double outlets mean more accessibility, whilst still blending seamlessly with our Tallows pallet.
Pitt Cooking, Cima 3 burner – With a family of five, a reliable stove top is a huge must! The Cima 3 Burners from Winnings were exactly what Tallows needed to provide powerful, reliable heat whilst still maintaining the elements of Australian contemporary design we know and love in our Byron Bay home.
Custom Bar Stools from FFORM – Designed in Sydney, we just knew we had to work with the team from FFORM to create our dream custom bar stools – and oh did they deliver.
Sheer Curtains from Evien Studio – Lastly, to tie it all together the team from Evien Studio made custom sheer curtains to run along the length of the windows surrounding our kitchen. Offering both practicality and style, these are the perfect addition to elevate the coastal-luxury inspired aesthetic of our home, and add a layer of softness to our kitchen and entertaining area.
Tallows has truly become everything we hoped it would be — a home that works as hard as our family does, without compromising on the design we’ve built our name on. From the Miele appliances that have already earnt their place in our daily chaos, to the quiet luxury of the Qariza benchtop and the warmth of the Wood Rabbit joinery, every choice was made with the same question in mind: will this stand up to real life, and will it still feel special in ten years’ time?
That’s what FutureFlip is about — bringing together considered design and premium partners to create homes that are as liveable as they are beautiful. If Tallows has given you a few ideas for your own home, or you’d love to chat about bringing a similar feel to your next build, we’d love to hear from you.
